This program is open to any player who will attend high school in 2013. All players must register with USA Hockey in order to play.
2013 High School Development League
Rochester Youth Hockey is pleased to offer an effective, affordable development opportunity for area high school students. This league will give freshmen an opportunity to play with upperclassmen, and will give all players the chance to get into hockey shape before their tryouts.
Experienced Coaches and High School-Friendly Schedule
From the opening of the ice rink through the start of high school tryouts, we will offer once a week skill sessions led by area high school coaches. In addition, we will offer weekend games at consistent times, which will make life easier on teens who have work, school, and social commitments.
We have designed the program to eliminate travel (and the fuel and food costs that go with it). The structure of the program allows us to use ice efficiently, which makes it much less expensive than our previous travel hockey offerings.
We believe that the game can and should be learned at the local level. We have chosen which leagues to participate in based on competitiveness and the impact on the league’s schedule on family life, and we have restructured our Mite and Midget programs to greatly reduce travel time. At all levels, most away games are within one hour of our rink, and the furthest rink we travel to is two hours away.
A key area of focus this year is spreading players out to create evenly-skilled teams. Our tryout will be structured to assure competitiveness among teams, and adjustments will be made along the way as needed.
