Rochester Blackhawks Charges Past Amherst to Clinch Seacoast Cup!!Rochester Blackhawks Charges Past Amherst to Clinch Seacoast Cup
Rochester Blackhawks Squirt 1’s demonstrated what teamwork was all about during the Seacoast Cup at UNH’s Whittemore Center, December 26-28.
“Go out there, play as a team and have fun – enjoy playing on college ice!” said head coach Rick Langis as he pumped up the team in the locker room prior to the first game. That is exactly what this team did throughout the tournament!
Despite a little holiday fatigue and adjusting their passing and game play to Olympic size ice (10ft. longer and 5 ft wider than the teams home ice), the Blackhawks set the stage for a great tournament performance that kept fans on the edge of their seats to the final game.
The Hawks started the tournament Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 tie against Hollis. “It was a tough game that could have gone either way, but, the team is starting to gel” said Langis. The team displayed some constant effort and speed from forwards Lukas Hughes, and Kaily DeSantis and relentless defense work from Ashton Langis.
Saturday night the Hawks earned a 5-2 win over Salem-Swampscott. They demonstrated great passing and persistence by forwards Garrett Langis and Jared Tomblin and impressive puck handling by centers Kadin Lessard and Shaun Cormier .
Despite a fearless affort at defense by Jacob Spainhower and persistent work from forwards Tanner MacDougal and Kaleigh Cadorette, the Blackhawks fell short for a final score of 0-1 to Amherst Sunday afternoon. “This team played hard and they certainly have nothing to be ashamed of today. I’m proud of the way the team played” said coach Langis.
It all came down to a re-match again Amherst to clinch the cup on Monday. This game brought a remarkable display of teamwork, as well as, skillful puck work resulting in goals by Shaun Cormier, Kadin Lessard and Buddy Hennelly. During this game you saw some great defensive play by Kassidy Lessard and hard shots from the blue line by Thomas Malinowski. This fast-paced game ultimately ended in a 3-0 shutout due to unshakeable goal tending work by Brayden McGary. The Rochester Blackhawk’s win “The Battle for the Seacoast Cup”.
Braydon McGary was named tournament MVP after the Amherst shut out and allowing only 4 goals in the entire tournament.
